Introduction
Water Quality Analysis Simulation Program (WASP5) is a generalized framework for modeling contaminant fate and transport in surface waters. Based on the flexible compartment modeling approach, it can be applied in one, two or three dimensions. Problems studied using WASP5 include biochemical oxygen demand and dissolved oxygen dynamics, nutrients and eutrophication, bacterial contamination, and organic chemical and heavy metal contamination. WASP5 includes two kinetic sub models, EUTRO5 and TOXI5, to simulate both conventional and toxic pollution. Used primarily to investigate the water quality response to management actions, WASP5 is a tremendous asset in computing point and nonpoint source load reduction.
