PCSWMM/SWMM Workshops
Urban Drainage and Stormwater Management Modeling Training
CHI offers a comprehensive program of accredited training courses for advanced stormwater, sanitary sewer and watershed management modeling using the internationally recognized spatial decision support software systems PCSWMM and SWMM.
Whether you're new to PCSWMM/SWMM or a more experienced user, the workshops will teach you everything you need to take full advantage of this software package. Discover how to use it to plan, design, analyze, and manage drainage systems of all types, from simple to unlimited complexity.
Learn How To:
- Master the EPA SWMM5 model, including all input options
- Avoid common pitfalls in the use of EPA SWMM5 while streamlining model development, analysis and reporting
- Analyze and prepare precipitation data from rain gages, design storms and remote sensing radar
- Efficiently design/analyze dual-drainage stormwater systems with dynamic interaction, inlet controls, drops, losses and optimized pipe sizes
- Design detention ponds and associated outlet structures to manage peak flows and remove pollutants
- Analyze continuous water quantity and quality analysis of Low Impact Development (LID) and other source controls
- Estimate/apportion dry weather flows and rainfall-dependent inflow/infiltration in sanitary sewers
- Efficiently parameterize subcatchments, sewer trunk data, etc. from GIS and other sources
- Perform comprehensive QA/QC on imported datasets and fill in missing data.
- Streamline model calibration with automated sensitivity, calibration and error analysis tools
- Automate flood inundation analysis with digital elevation models and HEC-RAS importing
- Setup real-time flood forecasting for watersheds and/or urban drainage systems
Learn from experts
Our instructors are professional engineers with years of experience in modeling urban drainage and stormwater management systems.
Design your own workshop
Select from the following workshops: Introductory, Intermediate, Advanced, and LID. Or select your preferred exercises from the full list of exercises.
Format
Lectures are interspersed with hands-on exercises allowing you to explore the different aspects of the programs. Learning will be encouraged with a relaxed atmosphere and ample personal instruction.
LOCATIONS:
North America
Workshops are available throughout the year in the U.S.A. and Canada. These 2-day workshops are conducted in English using the Engish version of the software. In Canada, throughout the province of Quebec, workshops may be conducted in French using the French version of the software. Upon special request, workshops may also be conducted in French in other locations.

South Africa
Every year CHI presents training options in South Africa. This year we will be offering courses tailored to different levels of skill and experience. Choose from 1, 2, or 3 days of training. Attendees will be eligible for the award of 1 CPD unit for each day completed at the workshop. New users should consider attending all three days, experienced users should attend at least day 3 to learn the latest advances in stormwater, urban water systems and watershed management modeling.
