Advanced Surface Water Modelling for Mines with EPA SWMM5 and PCSWMM, Johannesburg, South Africa

June 3 and 4, 2015

Lunch and breaks

9:00 AM to 5:00 PM

We are pleased to announce a new 2-day hands-on training workshop specific to South African mining applications. Earn 2 CPDs while advancing your professional skills and learning how EPA SWMM and PCSWMM can enhance your surface water modelling.

All attendees will be provided with a full 60-day software license of PCSWMM Professional 2D, as well as the EPA SWMM5 software and access to an extensive collection of new online learning materials and all digital course documentation.

Day 1: Introduction to PCSWMM and EPA SWMM5 modelling, â€‹hydrology and hydraulic considerations for mines, building a new stormwater model, importing and leveraging external CAD/GIS data, design storm creation using external data sources, rainfall disaggregation using a daily time step, error analysis and setting-up control rules to simulate a water balance.

Day 2: Groundwater aquifer parameterization, soil erosion estimates using the MUSLE equation, integrated 1D-2D modelling for pit, surface and canal flooding, flood risk mapping for mines, large-scale model calibration and flow duration curve analysis.

Onno Fortuin, PrEng. is a consulting engineer with over 20 years experience implementing mining projects throughout South Africa.  In 2008, Mr. Fortuin opened a practice providing consulting services with a focus on environmental and surface water engineering.  Since then he has had the opportunity to apply PCSWMM and EPA SWMM5 in a wide variety of advanced mine surface water modelling applications. Mr. Fortuin is a member of the Engineering Council of SA and the SA institution of Civil Engineering.
